Today we held a women’s street advertising campaign at Shakujii Koen Station in honor of International Women’s Day. I talked about menstrual poverty, how I grew up with a single father and could not ask him to buy me a sanitary napkin, and if there were sanitary napkins in the bathroom as a matter of course….
A girl on her way home from swimming stopped to listen, and when I greeted her, she said, “I have a mother, but I thought it was women who cooked. But I thought it wasn’t true,” she commented. We will continue to create new landscapes so that the younger generation will not be entangled in the old gender norms.
